All this week, as part of our tradition, we will highlight each day one of our members who volunteer their time & skills to keep the fire department operating 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Name: Gary Sims
Rank: Engineer| Member, Board of Directors
Volunteer Time: 50 Years at Holiday Park VFD

Gary is a “Life Member” of the Holiday Park VFD having served for 50 years in various roles ranging from operational to administrative. He is currently an Engineer on the operational side, Chair of the BME Committee (facilities), and a member of our Board of Directors providing oversight & governance. The Board of Directors oversees the overall department to ensure proper fiduciaries duties to the membership, local, state, and federal governments are followed; and that the operational and administrative areas operate within proper guidelines. The Board also handles all legal matters and brand-protection.

As an experienced General Contractor for decades, Gary served as Project Manager overseeing our Social Hall Renovation & Rejuvenation from 2019-2020. This included not just the hall but also doubling the Kitchen, built a new Executive Office Suite, ground floor Conference Room, expanded our Restrooms on the ground floor; and created an Outdoor Patio all while operating under COVID-19 protocols for the safety of the fire department members & construction crews.

As one of the department’s “Elder Statesman” he brings calmness and experience to long-term planning & operations.

Fun Fact: During Fish Fry, Gary is one of the most requested delivery drivers we have that our patrons like to see each year!
