Tuesday evening, the members of the Holiday Park Volunteer Fire Department participated in the second GRIT Fire Training LLC “Drill Nights,” which is part of the their (3 Drill Nights Package) we purchased.
Instructors included: – Alex Plutto (D.C. Fire and EMS) – Donald “Vitto” Baird (Stowe Twp. Fire Dept) – Dylan Bell (Pittsburgh Bureau of Fire)
Tonight’s focus was on “Firefighter Survival.” Crews were split into 3 groups and practiced the following skills:
Station 1:
– Window bail-out onto a ladder – Window hang from a window
Station 2:
– Entanglement prop
Station 3:
– Navigating out of a building using a charged hose line
Stations 2 and 3 were conducted under simulated zero visibility using “press and seal.” This technique helps our members maintain their skills through muscle memory. These skills are critical for our daily operations as firefighters and ensure we are prepared to save our own lives in emergency situations where we may be lost, trapped, or entangled.
We are grateful to our members for their dedication and hard work, and we appreciate the GRIT fire training group for their exceptional drill nights and knowledge. We look forward to continuing our training with GRIT.
