Our current junior firefighter program has one of the largest enrollment in years, currently nine in our department. Today six of them spent time reviewing individual skills and team building with Junior Firefighter Liaison, Aly Bryner, who herself joined the department at 18 and has become a good conduit between the younger and older firefighters.  Junior Firefighters are closely monitored by the Fire Cief and his line officers to ensure safety and mentoring.

The Junior Firefighter Program enables teens between the ages of 14 and 17 to participate and train alongside senior (adult) firefighters while learning the traditions of the fire service.  They permitted by Pennsylvania Laws to perform limited duties of a firefighter on emergency calls and training environments.  Junior Firefighters may work on and complete the first three segments of four-segment Essentials of Firefighting certification before their 18th birthday.  Once they turn 18 they can complete the final segment which involves live fire exercises; enabling them to get into full status quickly.

While in the program, they can also earn their certifications as Emergency Medical Responders or Emergency Medical Technicans allowing them to dive into the EMS world.

If you are between 14-17, we have spots available for you in our program. Email chief@holidayparkvfd.org
