The four fire departments of Plum Borough along with several mutual aid stations were dispatched at 3:20pm Friday afternoon for a residential structure fire on Old Leechburg Road between Sardis Road & Greensburg Road in the Renton (234) Fire District of Plum. From our department: 236-Chief, 236-Engine, & 236-Command responded.

234-Chief (Incident Commander) arrived on scene and reported multiple vehicles on fire as well as brush and fire endangering a building. Due to the large distance between fire hydrants the request was made for Tankers to respond and set up water shuttles to keep the fire engines supplied with water for all the hose crews. Tankers from Allegheny & Westmoreland County quickly responded.

Due to dry and breezy conditions, the fire spread across the road to a hillside which fire crews were assigned to handle as well as units sent up to the top of hill to attack from above. Incident Command requested one of the regional wildland fire units and they came out with personnel & apparatus to assist and lend additional guidance too.

Plum EMS ensured medical and rehab areas were covered for firefighters to gain relief from. The Salvation Army dispatched one of their units to also provide relief for this warm weather assignment. Plum Borough Police Department and 395-Fire Police provide traffic control to prevent unauthorized people from gaining access and potentially interfering with operations. After a few hours, the scene was brought under control and the Allegheny County Fire Marshal is investigating.
