The Lawrence E. Glass Chief’s Award is presented to an active member of the fire department who has performed above and beyond to the department in operational areas. The chief line officers of the department select the member each year and the award is named after past Fire Chief & Life Member Larry Glass. Firefighter Jesse Cook is this year’s recipient awarded for his hard work in growing his Firefighter skillsets, go-getter attitude in training opportunities, and never-ending goal to help the department in any way on and off the fire ground.
This award is presented at the annual banquet by his widow, Carol Glass.
Chief Glass advanced through the professional/career firefighter ranks in Florida, retiring a Battalion Chief. He returned to Holiday Park VFD and again worked his way up the ranks to serve as the Fire Chief for many years. Sadly Larry passed away from Cancer; but remained extremely active with the department to his last days. One of Larry’s top priorities was Fire Prevention for the community; especially for children. He would lead each Fire Prevention class and made sure the younger members learned how to teach it.
