For several years now, we have been asked when we are going to have a fire camp for adults similar to the program that we have hosted for teens the past six summers. We are excited and proud to announce our 1st ๐๐ถ๐๐ถ๐๐ฒ๐ป๐ ๐๐ถ๐ฟ๐ฒ ๐๐ฐ๐ฎ๐ฑ๐ฒ๐บ๐ is launching this September!
The program runs for nine weeks on Wednesday evenings from 7pm to 10pm at our fire station in Plum Borough. No prior experience necessary, anyone 18 years of age and older may apply.
Our Citizens Fire Academy has three goals:
1) Provide the community with an insider’s view of the volunteer fire service and its operation.
2) Allow everyday citizens to experience what it takes to be a volunteer firefighter and/or emergency responder with hands-on training scenarios and experiences.
3) Help address the shortage of personnel for volunteer fire departments across the commonwealth by recruiting not only potential members but also supporters in the community.
As part of the program, participants will also be eligible to go on ride-a-longs with the duty crews to actual incidents and observe up close how volunteers make the difference in times of emergencies.
The program is free of charge, all equipment, gear, supplies, and training materials will be provided by the Holiday Park VFD along with mentors and instructors.
Requests for Applications of Enrollment can be sent to Chief Sims via info@holidayparkvfd.org.
Disclosure: This special community program is a sampling of fire service training and culture; it does not replace nor compete with the standardized certification training programs established by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
