Several of our department’s officers & firefighters successfully completed the 2-day Aggressive Terrain ATV/UTV Proficiency course taught by Diamond Heart Wilderness Training Grounds in Westmoreland County this past weekend. This course helps participants to think out of the box when in deep wilderness cover, whether fighting fires or on search and rescue/recovery tasks. All efforts are made to create a “Very Real” feel to each scenario we train on.
High emphasis on driving skills whether is be on steep grades, side slips, rolling or rutted terrain, and water sections. Lots of driving in this course, and hands-on recovery skills.
The team took 236-ATV, along with 236-Utility & 236-Brush/Command, into the mountain ridges of Westmoreland County to hon our outdoor rescue skills. Each member who shown how to take 236-ATV and use every ounce of power and features to reach injured people deep in the woods; no matter the terrain. As drivers, each member; learned to operate outside of their comfort zone and take the vehicle where it would not normally go.
Well done too…
