A brand new program for Plum High School students was debuted Thursday night that kicks off this Fallโฆ. Firefighter certification training while in school! This is partnership with the Allegheny County Fire Academy and Plum Borough School District.
Representatives from the academy along with Plum graduates who are active in Holiday Park Volunteer Fire Department and UNITY VFD were on hand to talk about the benefits of the program. Alumni and current Assistant Chief at Unity VFD, Glenn Kopec Jr, spoke about how the Fire VEST program pays for college.
Captain Ryan LaBertew from Holiday Park VFD, another Plum Alumni spoke about his past time as a teenager who volunteered in the fire service and how it is help guide him in adulthood.
Plum students can chat with their guidance counselor for further details as well as speak with reps at one of the four volunteer fire departments in Plum who are also supporting this program.
