The officers & members of the Holiday Park VFD are sad to announce to the passing of one of our longest serving Life Members, Ed Kenna, on Wednesday. A fixture in the fire department for over five decades; Ed was our “Elder Voice” for continuing the traditions of the fire service to the younger generations as well as sound mind for fiscal & financial responsibility.
Having served in various positions and roles, including Assistant Fire Chief, Ed has never stopped in promoting the volunteer fire department and pushing it to grow. He retired as a Service Technician from General Electric where he brought his skills to the station and community.
In 2016, Ed was the recipient of the Distinguished Lifetime Achievement Award; the first one ever at Holiday Park VFD. While Ed in recent years did not respond to Fire Incidents, he aided in other ways such as advocate, community rep, and fundraiser as well as chairing our Seniority Committee. The Borough of Plum also issued a proclamation in his honor.
The Amen Corner & the Pittsburgh Chapter of the Fraternal Order of Leatherheads (firefighter society) honored Ed in 2017 with a award for lifetime of dedication to the Fire Service in Western Pennsylvania with a special event at Rivers Casino.
Ed was honored in January 2020 for his 50 years of dedication to the Fire Service by the Pennsylvania State Legislature with an award presented by State Rep Markosek.
Funeral arrangements for Ed have not yet been finalized at this time.
Please keep Ed’s family, especially his wife, Kathy, in your prayers.
