This week, firefighters updated their VES (Vent, Enter, & Search) and victim removal skills using our custom made props. Captain LaBertew & Lieutenant Gottschall led the training evolutions ensuring safety along the way.

The 3-Step VES Sequence

Vent: A firefighter clears the window (breaking the glass, removing sashes/blinds) to release smoke and heat, and to create an immediate escape route.

Enter: The firefighter quickly and safely enters the room through the window opening, utilizing ground or roof ladders if accessing upper floors.

Search: While staying low and using tools like a Halligan bar to sweep the floor and walls, the firefighter rapidly searches for victims. Once located, the victim is brought to the window and passed to the outside team for extrication.

Holiday Park VFD is fortunate to have several members who are experts in the construction field and whom develop in-house these drill props.
