32 cadets from several counties completed our annual week-long fire camp for teens, 14-17 years of age, with success! Each day brought new theme and skill sets for the cadets to experience & build off of. Camp kicked off on June 19th, and on June 23rd, the cadets were acknowledged in a pubic graduation ceremony at Plum Borough’s Summerfest. Family, friends, fire department colleagues, and the community gave them all a standing round of applause.
The Holiday Park Volunteer Fire Department each summer hosts the week-long camp for youth who are interested in the Emergency Services fields whether as a career path or as volunteers. A cadre of instructors and staff from the areas of Fire, Emergency Medical Services, and Law Enforcement provide the campers, or as we like to call them, cadets, a glimpse into their worlds and sample what itโs like to be in them.
The cadets leave with several certifications including but not limited to: CPR, Fire Dynamics, Fire Safety & Extinguishers, First Aid, Medical Helicopter Landing Zone Operations, & Stop the Bleed.
